“this tempest will not give me leave to ponder”


The storm raging outside while Lear references his own internal ‘tempest’ is representative in its self of the  chaos and intrusive burden of his own madness on his decision making possibilities. As someone says “this storm will turn us all to fools and madmen” and it is likely Shakepeare intended this statement to apply to both the external and internal tempest that is affecting.

The external storm is nothing compared to the internal.
